BRAC Environmental Restoration Program Management, Fort Pickett, 2006, U.S. Department of the Army
GECO has provided management services to the U.S. Department of the Army (DA) for the Fort Pickett BRAC Program. GECO personnel served as DA’s liaison to plan, budget, investigate property to document suspected areas of contamination, develop scopes of work, conduct field activities, and coordinate resolution of regulatory comments. The beginning stages of the BRAC environmental program involved the development of an environmental baseline survey, NEPA environmental assessment, archeological survey, asbestos survey, NRC license material survey, UXO archive search and a community relations plan. In addition, GECO scoped, planned and initiated multiple CERCLA interim removal actions, preliminary assessments, site investigations, remedial investigations, proposed plans, decision documents, and remedial actions.
GECO personnel authored many of the closure and transfer documents including multiple CERCLA Proposed Plans and Decision Documents and Department of Defense Finding of Suitability to Lease and Transfer documents.
Groundwater Remediation Pilot Study, Fort Pickett Sanitary Landfill, MTC Fort Pickett, 2012-2014, Jennifer Donnell
GECO performed an investigation at the Landfill to determine the effectiveness of enhanced bioremediation as a potential remediation technique to treat groundwater and provide site-specific data necessary to implement a full-scale design. The study included the installation of injection and monitoring wells, two rounds of “food source” injections, performance monitoring and the compilation and presentation of the data into a final report. The results of the pilot study were successful and provided direct evidence that enhanced bioremedation technologies would be an effective technique for use at the Landfill.
