GIS Experience – GECO’s personnel possess extensive experience in GIS specifically relating to National Guard Bureau, DMA and Fort Pickett.
GIS Services provided by GECO include:
• Creation of SDS formatted GIS databases and FGDC metadata in accordance with Executive Order 12906 and AR-115;
• Keeping abreast of National Guard Bureau requirements for GIS data calls;
• Chairing regular GIS Workgroup meetings at Fort Pickett, where attendees from various departments discuss their data creation needs and coordinate their efforts;
• Drafting and implementing Quality Control Procedures for Geographic Information Officers, Action Officers, and Subject Matter Experts to follow for GIS data creation;
• Attending regional and national conferences to share best management practices for implementing Enterprise Geographic Information Systems for the National Guard, other branches of DoD, non-profits, and commercial organizations;
• Developing GIS applications and decision support tools;
• Assisting with development of GIS data sets, including many of the data sets in use at NGVA-FMO-EN;
• Continuing education of GIS technology through advanced courses from ESRI and online discussion forums;
• Supporting desktop computers, servers, and networks to enable entire organizations to implement GIS (including Conservation Management Institute at VA Tech, Pennsylvania Directorate of Military and Veteran Affairs, and NGVA-FMO-EN);
• Providing presentations and training courses to explain GIS concepts and use; and
• Growing ever more familiar with the personnel, resources, and requirements for Enterprise GIS at Fort Pickett.
